Welcome!
ABCs
was formed
to improve the environments of wildlife in both captive
and native settings, and to educate the community about these
fascinating animals and their
habitats. We host many events at local facilities that
include animal interaction- check out our upcoming events section to
find out when we'll be near you!
From the
desk of the Executive Director:
My name is Lisa Chicarella and I am the Executive Director of Animal
Behavior & Conservation Society, Inc. I’d like to take
a moment and tell you a little about why ABCs was started.
I am a veterinary technician and for the past 5 years, I have
volunteered in this capacity for a small nonprofit zoo in western
Maryland. I’ve strived both in my career and
volunteer work to improve the lives of the animals in my care.
Though I have always enjoyed my work with the zoo animals, I knew I
could do more for them. While appropriate medical care is vital
to their health, to truly impact their wellbeing, I needed to improve
their habitats. ABCs is not only a realization of my dream but
a group of individuals dedicated to improving the lives of both captive
and wild animals through environmental enrichment, local conservation
efforts and ongoing community education.
